Dosing Equipment

Whether boilers, swimming pools or industrial cooling towers, all systems that involve water flow through piping and instrumentation needs chemical treatment for disinfection, and to avoid lime scale, corrosion and the general accumulation of debris that may cause the system to fail. A badly maintained steam boiler is liable to explode. Each dosing chemical need has a specific application and need not be a complicated matter to install; Chlorine has been used as a standard method of disinfecting potable water for centuries. It can involve the use of chlorine gas, calcium hypochlorite or sodium hypochlorite; Chloride dioxide is used to disinfect water used in the food and beverage industries; Ultraviolet light is ideal for disinfecting potable water and waste water, processing water as well as swimming pool water. In some industrial processes, as well as in public water supplies, the UV light will kill bacteria, but the water needs to be pre-filtered or pre-treated to remove metallic ions that could inhibit the UV irradiation process.

Other chemical dosing systems include both application methods and storage of substances such as alum, flocculent, potassium permanganate, polyelectrolyte and fluorosilicic acid. The nature of the chemical dosing equipment used depends on the scale and nature of the application; Motor-powered metering pumps are used for dosing systems with soda ash, sodium hypochlorite, alum, caustic and acidic dosing. The water meters will indicate the rate of water usage and are ideal for controlling the dose of treatment chemicals. Chlorine dosing pumps are still used widely in swimming pools, even though ultraviolet irradiation equipment is becoming more popular; Gas chlorination equipment is used in industrial chemical dosing and is manufactured in advanced polymers, such as PTFE or MDPE, that will not be corroded by chlorine. Complete water treatment systems can be provided together with booster pumps, emergency shut off devices, trolleys, beams and scales.
